The FS6608/FS6606/FS6605 is a family of easy-to-use and fast-to-production Fast Ethernet switch controllers.  Although pin definitions may vary, all controllers are designed based on the same architecture and pin-to-pin compatible with SX hub controllers of the same port-density.

FS6608/6/5 utilizes parallel packet switching and filtering to achieve wire-speed forwarding on every port for concurrent and independent traffic streams. Moreover, FS6608/6/5 uses an innovative congestion detection mechanism together with its efficient buffer management scheme, it is able to ensure maximum overall throughput even if part of the switch is heavily congested.   FS6608/6/5 is simple but flexible.  The device has many optional features configurable through EEPROM and/or serial input interfaces. However, it operates flawlessly in default configuration.

A Fast Ethernet 8/6/5-port switch can be implemented using FS6608/6/5 and popular pipeline SSRAM. And the controller uses internal SRAM to hold up to 4K uni-cast addresses.  As the storage space for addresses is separated from packet buffer, the forwarding rate is independent of the update rate of addresses and the switching latency is shortened.
